The Quattro autopilot successfully demonstrated autonomous takeoff, waypoint tracking, and auto landing with minimal input from the user. The flight was conducted with Applied Navigation’s 760-size electric helicopter at a test site in rural Virginia.
Applied Navigation’s waypoint tracking guidance is unique because it forward-predicts in time. This makes the logic more complex but allows vehicles flying with Quattro to anticipate turns more like a human does. Smooth flight in various wind conditions gives the payload a better platform to do its job.
