February 22, 2023 - Vigilant Spirit was designed for multiple vehicle operation from its inception at the US Air Force Research Lab (AFRL). Safe operation of more than one aircraft requires the user interface to only show the information needed to perform the mission and make decisions. Flashy displays are great for grabbing attention at trade shows but creating an interface that is clean,
July 26, 2022 - Applied Navigation performed an entire flight from takeoff to landing with no GPS. The flight was performed with the Anaconda test-bed using Vigilant Spirit and Quattro Engineering Tool to display information to the user. The airplane was flown in easy steering mode using a game controller to provide guidance during hover,
April 25, 2022 - We are pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Eric Beyer to the team. Eric has an extensive background in simulation, guidance, navigation, and controls (GNC) that includes both theoretical and practical applications. Dr. Beyer will be helping us accelerate the Quattro product roadmap as we extend capability to include operation in GPS challenged environments,
October 20, 2021 - Applied Navigation continues to add support for industrial grade external devices. The latest of these are the Velocity series of ESCs from Currawong. The Velocity Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) series provide high-voltage, high-power, and efficient operation for large unmanned air vehicles.
The Quattro autopilot will automatically detect Currawong ESCs over CAN bus.
July 13, 2021 - The Quattro flight management system has successfully demonstrated autonomous runway takeoff and landing. Flight tests were conducted by Magline Composites and Systems in Zaragoza, Spain. The Quattro performed several fully autonomous flights to demonstrate autonomous ground steering, liftoff, waypoint and orbit tracking, and landing. Logic for flap management,
April 20, 2021 - Applied Navigation has now demonstrated full transition on multiple hybrid VTOL vehicle types. Our controller uses several innovative technologies to smoothly blend from hover to wing-borne flight. Quad-plane, tilt-rotor, and tilt-wing are supported. More announcements and videos to come this summer.
January 21, 2021 - Vigilant Spirit Control Station with Quattro autopilot and Orion gimbal
Applied Navigation has successfully tested a new payload specific module for Vigilant Spirit Control Station. Vigilant Spirit is a Stanag-4586 compatible user interface that supports multiple vehicles, each with one or more payloads. Both vehicle and payload Level of Interoperability (LOI) are requested and granted according to the standard.
November 23, 2020 - The Quattro autopilot successfully demonstrated autonomous takeoff, waypoint tracking, and auto landing with minimal input from the user. The flight was conducted with Applied Navigation’s 760-size electric helicopter at a test site in rural Virginia.
Applied Navigation’s waypoint tracking guidance is unique because it forward-predicts in time.
