Vigilant Spirit was designed for multiple vehicle operation from its inception at the US Air Force Research Lab (AFRL). Safe operation of more than one aircraft requires the user interface to only show the information needed to perform the mission and make decisions. Flashy displays are great for grabbing attention at trade shows but creating an interface that is clean, reliable, and consistent takes purpose and discipline. Applied Navigation is fortunate to offer Vigilant Spirit for use with the Quattro Flight Management System. Vigilant Spirit and Quattro are a perfect match because they share the same design philosophy. The Quattro handles flight control and autonomy while Vigilant Spirit enables the human to make decisions and responds to emergencies. Adding multiple vehicles to the workload is possible because the system uses strong color coding, active checklists, alarms that are mapped to emergency procedures. Stanag-4586 level-of-interoperability is enforced by the autopilot so there is never a mystery as to who is in control of which vehicle or payload. Vigilant Spirit can be used to connect to actual vehicles, hardware-in-the-loop simulators, software-only simulators (shown below), and replays of flight data. The vehicles used in this video are multiple instances of Applied Navigation’s 6DOF simulator that comes with every Quattro SW installer and is completely customizable for fixed-wing, helicopter, quad-plane, or tilt-wing. Each vehicle has it’s own checklists, icons, and expected capability within Vigilant Spirit. If you are looking for safe operation of multiple vehicles then come check out Vigilant Spirit with Quattro.
